Narayan Mohanty scored twice to help host Orissa post a 4-1 win over Uttar Pradesh (East) in the opening match of the 7th All-India BSNL Hockey Tournament at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar today.
Santosh Sasmal drew first blood for the home side, while the tally was completed by Maga Munda.
In three other group league matches of the day, NTR Delhi edged out Rajasthan 2-1, Karnataka blanked Andhra Pradesh 5-0 and Punjab prevailed over MTNL Delhi 2-0.
The six-day tournament with 15 teams in the fray was earlier inaugurated by Chief Post Master General (Orissa) K V Sundar Rajan. Orissa BSNL Chief General Manager S C Joshi presided over opening ceremony.
